Out-of-state voter registration guide
How to register to vote in Michigan
To register to vote in Michigan as an out-of-state student you must register in person with your city or township clerk at their clerk's office or Early Voting Center. Additionally, you will be required to provide proof of residency for your campus address or Michigan residential address as well as a valid photo ID.
*Registering to vote in Michigan at your campus address will change your registered address (shown on driver's license/state ID). This will not impact your financial aid or university residency status. You will be sent a sticker from the Secretary Of State with your new registered address which will need to be applied to the back of your driver's license or state ID.
How to find your clerk
Michigan law allows same-day voter registration and voting in person during the early voting period as well as up till 8 p.m. on Election Day. For out-of-state students interested in getting registered you can locate your clerk by clicking the "Find My Clerk" button.
