About MSUvote

MSUvote is a non-partisan campus committee whose mission it is to increase the number of registered student voters, to inform and educate students on candidates and issues, and to bolster student participation on Election Day. This is where our "registration, education, and participation" slogan comes from.

MSUvote hosts, sponsors, and promotes a variety of activities, including:

  • Voter registration and education drives

  • Connecting local clerks to student organizations in order to increase registration

  • Registering students at orientation

  • Sponsoring the Secretary of State’s Mobile Unit on campus

  • Hosting, sponsoring or supporting debate watch activities, candidate and issue forums

  • Encouraging turnout on Election Day and celebrating student voters through events

We are also proud to be connected to many organizations and initiatives nationwide. We partner with Campus Election Engagement Project, The Campus Vote Project, The League of Women Voters and are part of the 1,000 member schools of The Institute for Democracy and Higher Education.

MSU has also been designated a Voter Friendly Campus every year

since the program’s creation in 2016! The initiative, by Fair Elections

Center’s Campus Vote Project and NASPA–Student Affairs Administrators

in Higher Education, recognizes institutions that have planned and

implemented practices that encourage their students to register and

vote in the most recent elections and in coming years.

The mission of the 2023 Voter Friendly Campus designation is to bolster

colleges and universities’ efforts to help students overcome barriers to

participating in the political process – every year, not just during years

featuring federal elections. MSU was evaluated based on a written plan for how we planned to register, educate, and turnout student voters in 2022, how we facilitated voter engagement efforts on our campus, and a final analysis of our efforts.

Why We Matter

Every election presents a unique opportunity for college students to make their voice heard- that is especially true in this year’s local and national elections. MSUvote is committed to registering Spartans to vote, educating students on the issues, and ensuring that Spartans are participating in the election process.
